COLLABORATION ACROSS BORDERS

As a Distinguished Communicator at Louisiana State University, I have placed myself in situations where I have learned to collaborate my ideas with my peers and other professionals in the design field. As the class representative for the LSU Interior Design class of 2022, I have been tasked with communicating information from the dean and professors to my classmates and other levels in the school of interior design. By doing this I was able to become more comfortable talking with my classmates and professors leading me to join other professional organizations such as the International Interior Design Association and the American Society of Interior Designers in 2019.  In 2020 I was elected by my peers to be the Media Chair for the delta regional chapter of IIDA. I was tasked with communicating events and advocating for others to join the organization. I created posters, managed the Instagram account, and led group discussions with professionals in the design field across LSU interior design and landscape architecture. Continuing my interest in communication in 2021 I was elected social chair for Interior Design Student Organization, IDSO. I started this position while I was studying in Paris France where I had to collaborate within a 7 hour time difference twice a month.  While I was in Paris I attended the Architecture Bienalle in Venice Italy where I was placed in groups with architecture and urban planning students from Grenoble, France, and Tuscany, Italy.  I found myself understanding cultural differences in how students in Europe communicate and work together from a cultural standpoint. As the only one in my group that could speak English well, I was tasked with presenting ideas to local senators and design professionals our group perspective on urban planning and architecture throughout Europe.

ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE

Along with my peers in my professional elective course in Architecture, I had the opportunity to collaborate at a global level at the Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy. The Biennale is an international exhibition where Architecture from nations is displayed. We had the opportunity to work with other students from Europe and discuss our own perspectives with professionals in the field of Urban Planning and Architecture.
